Armed Forces Day 2021

27th of July, 2021

From Stuart A. Clewlow, FRHistS, Chorley based local historian

Dear All,

I am a Local Historian from Chorley and for the last 25 years I have been involved in numerous heritage projects and community engagement initiatives within both Chorley Borough and South Ribble Borough. We may even have worked together on initiatives in the past or you may have received messages from me last year during the run up to VE Day 2020 for example.

Since the national lockdown and movement restrictions began in March 2020, it disrupted most events which were planned to commemorate the 75th anniversaries of VE Day, VJ Day, the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Britain and many others. However, it was possible to present a series of what I have been calling ‘lockdown commemorations’ in order to ensure certain anniversaries and occasions were suitably acknowledged.

What I hope will be a final ‘lockdown commemoration’ is an online video to mark Armed Forces Day 2021. As you will be aware, this is our opportunity to thank the service personnel of our Armed Forces…past and present.

With the kind support of Chorley Council and South Ribble Borough Council and with the assistance of Leyland Band, I presented an online video called “A Salute to Our Armed Forces” which premiered on YouTube and Facebook on Armed Forces Day, Saturday 26th June 2021.

The video can be seen on my YouTube Channel “Chorley & District History” and the link is: Armed Forces Day 2021

Please let me know if you have any queries. Many thanks for your time with this matter and best wishes,

Stu
